Forest School

Our Forest School sessions are led by our bushcraft-trained practitioner, in both our own outdoor area and the local Hertford woodlands, just a short walk from the nursery

Children take part in activities like den building, campfire cooking, toasting marshmallows, creating art from natural materials, and walking tightropes between trees. These sessions develop confidence, resilience, physical coordination, and a genuine love of nature through safe, supported risk-taking. Forest school is included for all children at no extra cost and runs throughout the year.

Community Engagement

Learning at Mini Morgans goes beyond our nursery walls. Our Community Champion organises regular outings with local Hertford partners so children experience the world around them first hand.

Recent trips have included visits to local farms, parks, the library, and shops in Hertford town centre. These outings help children build social confidence, practise real-world communication, and develop an understanding of their local community.

All trips are included in our fees and supervised by our experienced practitioners.

Discover, Learn and Grow at our Nursery in Hertford

Awe Inspiring

Every activity at Mini Morgans is planned around your child's individual interests. Our practitioners observe each child closely and design experiences that introduce new skills, creative challenges, and moments of genuine discovery.

We follow the EYFS framework across all seven areas of learning, with a strong focus on communication, personal development, and building confidence through play. Each child has a key person who knows them well and works closely with your family to track progress and celebrate milestones.

Physical, Outdoor and Risky Play

Children at Mini Morgans spend time outdoors every day, whatever the weather. Our secure outdoor area is used for active play, outdoor meals, gardening, and messy play throughout the day.

We are located just a short walk from the local woodlands, where our regular Forest School sessions take place. Our practitioners support children to take age-appropriate risks, climb, balance, run, and explore, building physical coordination and resilience in a safe, supervised environment.

Child Led

At Mini Morgans, children lead their own learning. Our practitioners follow each child's curiosity, adapting activities in the moment to match their interests and developmental stage.

We use play-based, therapeutic approaches to help children understand their emotions, resolve conflicts, and build friendships. This is supported by consistent relationships with familiar staff members. Our team includes practitioners with Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications and over 20 years of experience in early years settings.

A Positive & Motivating Environment

The Mini Morgans Ethos

At Mini Morgans, we follow children's natural curiosity outdoors and in. Our Forest School practitioner leads weekly woodland sessions where children build dens, cook over campfires, walk tightropes between trees, and create art from natural materials found in Hertford's local woodlands. Inside, practitioners extend these experiences through EYFS-aligned activities that connect nature discovery to early literacy, numeracy, and creative expression. This rhythm between outdoor exploration and indoor reflection builds confident, articulate children ready for their next educational steps.

Each child at Mini Morgans follows their own learning journey. Our key person approach means your child builds a close relationship with one dedicated practitioner who knows their interests, developmental stage, and personality. We celebrate Hertford's diverse community through our activities, welcoming families from different cultural backgrounds and supporting home languages alongside English. Whether your child is drawn to physical challenges in the woods, creative expression through art, or early number work, we tailor experiences that match their developmental needs and spark genuine excitement about learning.

As an independent Hertford nursery rather than a corporate chain, Mini Morgans makes decisions based on what's best for the children in our care, not shareholder targets. Manager Sophie (BA Early Childhood Studies) and Deputy Manager Mel (20+ years early years experience) lead a stable, close-knit team where practitioners stay for years, not months. This consistency means your child sees the same familiar faces every day, building the secure attachments that underpin confident development. Our parents frequently tell us their children ask to come to nursery at weekends.
